Elise Norquist

Historian/Cultural Resources Specialist

Ms. Norquist serves as a Historian/Cultural Resources Specialist at Marstel-Day. In compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA, and in cooperation with other cultural resource professionals, Ms. Norquist has completed cultural resource survey investigations at all phases. This work has entailed authoring historic contexts, completing background research and historic map reviews, recording architectural resources, assessing NRHP eligibility, and researching land ownership histories to create an occupational narrative. Ms. Norquist has authored historical contexts for HABS/HAER projects and NRHP nominations, and an important element of her work has been researching properties associated with underrepresented communities. Prior to her work at Marstel-Day, Ms. Norquist authored several studies for the National Park Service, including administrative histories and cultural landscape inventories. She also authored a Special Resource Study about the African American experience in relation to Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. In 2022, Ms. Norquist co-authored the NRHP and VLR-listed African American Resources in Fauquier County, Virginia, 1865-1973 Multiple Property Document (MPD) Form.

Ms. Norquist earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of Denver and an MA in archaeology from the University College London.
